Reginald Shepherd, dead at 45

The poet Reginal Shepherd died late September 10th. Shepherd had been fighting cancer for some time now, and learned six days prior to his death that it could no longer be treated.

Shepherd was the author of several books of poetry as well as a memoir, Orpheus in the Bronx: Essays on Identity, Politics, and the Freedom of Poetry . He has also edited two poetry anthologies The Iowa Anthology of New American Poetries and Lyric Postmodernisms.

The September / October 2008 issue of The American Poetry Review featured an interesting interview with Shepherd, as well as several new poems. Pick up a copy if you have a chance.
